All You Need is Love and Values

So what is needed? The answer lies somewhere in the middle of the two extremes but yet without compromising certain values. If we go back to the 50's and Leave it to Beaver, not a whole lot seemed bad about those times. On the surface perhaps, but when you look underneath the hood you saw all kinds of hidden problems. For one racism was at a disgusting level and African Americans were commonly lynched in the backwoods. So what did we do, did we fix the problems with racism and others that existed? No we threw everything out, the good with the bad and rebelled against everything that was. But why couldn't we keep the fact that kids could play outside without us worrying about them being taken away. Or that most marriages lasted and the degree of violence in society was a fraction of what it is today. What if we kept those values that made life worth living but corrected only what was wrong? Perhaps we wouldn't be where we are today.

I believe what we need is a return to the values we shared over 50 years ago but yet without the racism and lack of opportunities and representation for women. Then we can find the balance and work toward a society where kids don't shoot each other and racism is heading toward extinction.

In the Bible it says for children to respect their parents. It is not hard to see why this makes sense. But because such a principle stems from the Bible and the Ten Commandments, it is treated with contempt by many. We have to ask ourselves what is wrong in teaching our children that G-d wants them to respect and obey their parents. Of course society would like to stamp out the belief in G-d altogether. But was G-d and family really so bad? Leave it to Beaver may seem a bit pathetic watching today but the kids didn't carry around rifles and plan on shooting each other either.

The truth is we need values and a belief in a higher authority in which we will answer to one day. We weren't designed to simply act on our whims and do whatever we want. We can see the results of such behavior all around us today. Children should respect their parents, and people should respect those older than them. There is an order built into the universe that we all need to follow. And when we do good things happen. So the next time you hear someone laughing at someone religious or the Bible, take a good look around at how society functions without these values. Take a look at the suicide rate, gang violence, and the like and perhaps consider that nothing is uncool about trying to play the game by the rules. Nothing is cool about getting a bullet through your head while sitting in your Math class.

The lie is that in order to have love and tolerance, that we need to throw away values. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The truth is that we need both, we need values and love. We need to expect each other to follow the rules, but to also have fun and love each other while doing this. We need to not become self righteous and not make being good a competition for who is holier than thou. We need to not frown at people because they missed coming to church last week. We need to mind our own business and not control each others lives. We need to accept each other where we are at and realize we all have different backgrounds and start at different places.

Can things get better? I think they can as they certainly can't get much worse. I stronly believe a supernatural return of G-d is coming soon and that this world need to shape up now and turn back to faith. If we don't the results could be very painful for all of us. I believe the time to change back towards G-d and values is now, it has to be now.
